Our Story

Outback Cookhouse (formerly Spices Down Under) is a small family‑owned business originating on the South Coast of NSW. 

The journey began in 2021 with the purchase of Spices Down Under, a local business offering spice blends, dukkah, BBQ rubs and seasonings. In 2022, Jacqui’s parents wanted to expand the business to include a range of relishes, pickles and condiments to further share their love and joy for bringing people together around food and nibblies. As a result they established a new brand, Outback Cookhouse. With a growing love for chilli and adding an ‘extra kick’ to meals, they added a few hot sauces, with the Carolina Reaper and Habanero hot sauce quickly becoming some of their most popular items. 

The name and logo for the new brand emerged from a hand‑drawn sketch of an old cookhouse they discovered in a building out the back of their property, a drawing which became the heart of the brand.  

Five years on, the business remains proudly family owned and operated, grounded in the same care and passion it began with. 

Our branding brings together personal meaning and a sense of place. The warm sun and stepping stone shapes were inspired by our daughter's love of giraffes and ducks, while the earthy colours reflect the Australian landscape, the same tones you will find throughout our spice and sauce range. 

Today Outback Cookhouse brings together family tradition, bold flavour and a love of simple and delicious food.
